Description:

This two-day course gives you a strong understanding of ASME’s Section IX Welding Code. In the international plant engineering business ASME Code Section IX is the most often used standard for the qualification of welding, brazing and plastic fusion. This course exclusively covers the topic of welding and familiarizes you with the qualification of welding procedures and welders as required by ASME Code Section IX. The basic requirements of ASME Code Section IX will be demonstrated. During the course the participants gain the necessary knowledge to independently prepare and/or review Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Welder/Welding Operator/Performance Qualifications (WPQ/WOPQ).

The course language is English.

Overview of the topics:

  • structure and application of ASME Code Section IX

  • basic requirements regarding the qualification of welding procedures and welders

  • documentation: Procedure Qualification Record (PQR), Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) and Welding Operator Performance Qualification (WOPQ)

  • scope and variables of different welding procedures

    • "essential variables" and "nonessential variables"

    • impact test requirements and "supplemental essential variables"

  • qualification of welders and welding operators

    • manual and semiautomatic welding

    • machine and automatic welding

  • scope and variables for welders

Salih Eraktan Tahir Salih Eraktan is a very experienced ASME Authorized Inspector and ASME Authorized Inspector Supervisor. Supervisor, as well as an ASME Authorized Training Instructor. Salih is also a welding inspector and his experience covers pressure vessels, power boilers as well as piping systems. As a PED inspector he is very familiar with the dual certification of pressure equipment under both ASME and PED. Being a member of the technical expert committee of the Turkish Accreditation Body (TURKAK) he participates in many audits of NOBO and RTPO in Turkey. Since 1998 he has been engaged in ISO 9001, ISO 3834 and EN 1090 activities as a lead auditor for several third party organizations. Additionally, he participates as a Health and Safety Class A expert in audits of accredited companies and conducts in-service inspection of pressure vessels and storage tanks. His vast professional experience makes Salih an ideal instructor of courses covering ASME Code Section VIII-1, Section V, Section IX, ASME/PED as well as MT, PT and RT workshops within Turkey and abroad.
