Formed Heads

Post by DavidK » Sun 17. Jun 2018, 21:19

Hi. Is it the intention that the minimum plate thickness requirements of ASME I PG-16 apply to formed heads (such as PG 29.11 hemispherical heads)? For lower pressure applications, it is quite possible to calculate a tmin less than 6 mm.

BTW, I searched https://cstools.asme.org/Interpretation ... tation.cfm and found nothing....

DavidK,
The minimum thickness applies also to the head formed to plate.
We think that the tolerance of PG-16.4 may be applied to the head after forming.
Sorry.

Thanks for the speedy response. I had the same personal interpretation, but could not find validation short of asking ASME for an official interpretation.
