Slenderness factor for column buckling >1.2 , ASME SEC VII Div-2

Dear All

We are designing column as per ASME Section VIII Div-2. While performing calculation, following error is observed.
Parameter : I.D = 1700 mm, T.L/T.L =57 meter. Hence, Value of lamda C ( EQ. 4.4.125) = 2.206

Now, while calculating, Axial compressive stress, compressive bending, shear stress and hoop compression as per 4.4.12.2(h), we found that there is no equation for Lamda c > 1.2.

Our query : 1. How to calculate axial compressive stress, compressive bending and shear stress, hoop compression for Lamda c > 1.2.
2. Shall Finite element analysis be required as per Code?

Hi,
Since you are exceeding the permitted range in Part 4, an FEA according to Part 5 is an option. If you want to apply the procedure in 4.4.12, you have to bring back your lambda c to 1.2 max.
