148mm Thk forging-Div -2 Job

Dear all

We have to make spherical vessel 1.8 m Dia of 130mm thk. SS 304 .

We have 2 option- etiehr of plate or forged in 2 pipeces and weld together.

What precaution we sould make in purchasing 130mm thk Forging for Dished end.
It is Div -2 job non coded vessel.

Forgings are restricted to 5 inch /125 mm (Please see Section II D)
So a plate has to be used from a steel mill with experience with such thick plates .
Also the plate has to be hot formed .

Hint: Ask the steel mill to form the plate .

So much for forming .

Now for welding , PWHT is involved .
Table UHA 32 Postweld heat treatment is neither required nor prohibited for joints between austenitic stainless steels of the P‐No. 8 group. See Nonmandatory Appendix UHA-A.
Also Nonmandatory Appendix A of Section IID .
Hint : Take the PWHT from Client/Process owner - in writing !

So much for Code .
There would be other requirements from Customer end such as Ferrite No et cetra .
These also have to be fulfilled .
